Habitual aspect

Last updated: Dec. 15, 2025

Defined as an action done as habit or custom, it is communicated in English with "always", "usually" or "every".

The habitual in Kovol is formed of

+ Medial verb + Final verb form of igisinim.

Kovol Examples

  • Neleb agamom.
    "I used to work"
  • Neleb igugum.
    "I always work"
  • Pugub igu.
    "He usually sits"

Potential restrictions

  • Would future tense habitual make sense? Neleb igisinim?

Note on terminology

This pattern is really hard to place in a tagmemic breakdown. There are two verbs, so it should really be two clauses - but the clauses communicate a single proposition, making a single assertion.

It's probably best not to worry too much and not to be too strict in our definition.
