Narratives
- Narratives can be used as the grounds for explaining current attitudes and opinions.
- A narrative ending can communicate the speaker's purpose in telling the story
- "Yesterday, what I did I have spoken."
- "The wanbel we did I have spoke."
- "We're wondering if these guys are the same."
- "The work I did this morning I have spoken and it is done."
- Quotes of characters in the story are prominent and can be used to express the speaker's opinion, and thus be an insight to the purpose of the text.
Hortatory
- Exhortations show speaker purpose.
- Future tense verbs describing desired actions shows speaker purpose.
